Biography
NABAKIIBI JOANITAH Known professionally as Joanah Jojo, is an award- winning makeup artist, actress, and costume designer based in Kampala, Uganda, with over a decade of experience in the film industry. Since beginning her career in 2016, she has been celebrated for her transformative contributions to storytelling through expert makeup artistry, acting, and costume design. ACTING CAREER: Jojo's acting journey commenced in 2016, leading to notable roles in films such as without a walking stick, Dead respect, Lala, Bedroom Chains, Makula, Omukululo, Maama Wange, The Wave. Soccer heart, sorea, find me online, katera, Men in suits and more. In 2022 her performance in Lala earned her the Best Actress award at the New Vision Awards. And received nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the Uganda Film Festival in Bedroom Chains. In 2024 she was nominated for Best Actress at the Uganda film festival in a movie omukululo . In 2025 she received a nomination for best actress in Ikon Awards in the movie Omukululo in CLAF Awards Nigeria she received a nomination for best supporting actress in a movie Makula. In 2026, she was again nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Uganda Film Festival for Maama Wange in the same movie she was nominated best supporting actress at the kaduna international film festival Nigeria . MAKEUP ARTISTRY AND COSTUME DESIGN: Transitioning behind the camera in 2020, Jojo has excelled as a makeup artist and costume designer. In 2022 her work on The Wave garnered her Best Makeup Artist and Best Costume Designer awards at the New Vision Awards. In 2023 She was nominated for Best Makeup Artist at the Uganda Film Festival for the movie Tale of Our Times In 2024 and 2025, she secured Best Makeup Artist award at the Ikon Awards and Uganda film festival for Lions of Buganda and in Pearl international film festival for the same film. Her costume design for Kimote earned her the Best Costume Designer award at the Uganda Film Festival. IN 2026 In the Uganda film festival she was nominated best costume designer, best makeup artist in the movie maama wange. Jojo also contributed to the films Nsanji , As I Dream , Damalie tv series and many more other projects With a passion for creativity and a commitment to excellence, she continues to be a driving force in the Ugandan film industry, bringing compelling narratives to life through her multifaceted talents.
